The town of Hazmieh was originally part of Baabda Municipality, and was represented by: George Harika, Francois Bassil, and Choukri Khouri, who later became President of Baabda Municipality. Hazmieh was separated from Baabda after efforts that lasted more than 25 years, carried out by the late George Shalhoub Alfagali and many of the town’s people, who many of them became members of the first Municipal Council of Hazmieh. The Decree No. 8130 was published on December 6th, 1961 in the Official Gazette, announcing the birth of the new municipality. In accordance with the elections’ results that took place in 23 December 1963, the first Municipal Council of Hazmieh was constituted of:

-Mr. George Joseph Harika Vice President

Municipal elections were held in Lebanon in the summer of 1998. The second Hazmieh municipal council was elected on 24 May 1998, as follows:
